Darkest 70's turned Glorious Beatle Years

70's was the most darkest part in the Philippine History, and indeed it was. During these decade, the Philippines was under the Marcos Regime, the longest regime and the most terrible that was, according to some Filipino constituents. But if I were given a power and privilege to go back and alter the history, I would have to choose this decade.

70s according to some Modern Pinoys was the most darkest decade among others. Ferdinand E. Marcos, the President who ruled the Philippines for more than 20 years, moreover, in this decade released the Presidential Proclamation Number 1081 mandating the Philippines under the Military Law or let us say, “Martial Law” , under his dictatorship, the Philippines became under his order, Military arrested the innocent civilians and the Opposition fighting against Marcos, they were kept inside the Military compounds under the control of the Philippine Military and the Philippine Constabulary ( Integrated National Police). And it was about 30,000 civilians who were arrested under this new Proclamation. Newspapers were shut down and some mass media entities were brought under his tight control. Many policies were initiated like the Curfew hours, and according to some statistics the number and percentage of Crime and unaswered Criminal cases were increased. And with a stroke of a pen, he close the two Legislative bodies of the Philippine Congress and instead he held the responsibilities for legislation under the new Interim Batasang Pambansa where the Philippine bicameral legislation became unicameral. And this proclamation made the extension of his term in office.

According to some then, 70's teenagers, the entire Philippines became under the tight control of his wings.

Now what about changing this? If have a power to alter this story I should change it. On the second Presidential election (1969) after a mysterious fall of Macapagal on 1965, where Marcos again won over 11 rivals and the main Sergio Osmena, Jr. The people shouldn't elect him again for the second time, and the people should think for the outcome for the next 4 years of his second term ( 1969-1973). And the People should elect Sergio Osmena Jr., of the Liberals, the son of then President and Sergio Osmena Sr. and Genaro Magsaysay also from liberals as its Deputy or Vice-President. And I am sure Philippines wouldn't be under the new Marcos' Program "The New Society" or "Ang Bagong Lipunan" and the terrible Martial Law. The Philippines wouldn't be under the 20 year control of Marcos. The Philippine legislation would remain as a Bicameral one. And most specially MEDIA WOULDN'T STOP ITS FUNCTION AS A NEWS DELIVERER. There will be no People Power and there wouldn't be Benigno Aquino Assasination. The Philippines would have to a Progressive one. The Philippines would have join the chamber of United Nations' Economical Tigers. And for sure, the Philippines would not suffer any Economical and Financial problems.

What a dream? But that was only a dream. In reality we could not alter the history, because history is the story from the Past that would never be changed and will mark in our hearts until the end.

  1. I cannot decide if I am more impressed by the thoughtfulness of your post, your vocabulary or your understanding of the politics and economics behind the dictatorship. I did not understand a lot of these concepts until I got to college. Your communication skills are excellent, however, some of the words do not quite fit. Before using a word that may sound right, look it up on dictionary.com to make sure it fits your meaning perfectly.
    Keep up the good work!
